Sugar Skull Girl Make-Up Art

I have always had a creative flair for make-up and art and decided to combine the two. Today I created a sugar skull look on one half of my face just cause I was bored. Took only 20 minutes to do and about 20 minutes for the pictures. This is how I did it.

Items Needed:
* Regular Foundation
* Black Liquid Eyeliner
* Light Pink Lipstick
* Silver or Black Glitter Liner
* Silver Gem Stickers
* Bronzer

Directions:
1. Apply your foundation as you would every day.
2. Apply more than the usual amount of bronzer or dark blush to the cheekbones working in a sweeping motion following your natural cheekbone line to the hairline.
3. Apply light pink lipstick.
4. Apply black eyeliner on the top and bottom lids on each eye as well as black mascara. Put a few coats of mascara on so the lashes look extra big.

DIY Sugar Skull Wall Art

 So this was a steal when I found these. I was in Shoppers Drug Mart a few weeks ago and I saw these duotang or file folders, whatever you want to call them, on sale for 49 cents. Guess it was a school sale. I couldn't believe they had sugar skull ones so I grabbed all the different kinds that were there. I didn't know what the hell I was gonna use them for, then I remembered my art studio could use some wall art. Therefore, I got some $1.00 frames from Dollarama, cut the folders to size and stuck em in the frames. For only $4.50, I had some awesome Sugar Skull wall art. Yeah!!

DIY Ribbon Skull Flower Pot

 I was never meaning to design this but after Halloween, I came across some skull ribbons at Michaels for $1.00. As you know, anything that is skull, I HAVE to buy lol. When I took it home, I realized I had a clay pot lying around for my son's room that I was meaning to re-paint. Instead of re-painting it however, I used the skull ribbon and glue it around the pot. I then inserted the fake plant I bought from Ikea for $4.00 and there you have it! Only cost about $1.00 for the clay pot from Dollarama, $2.00 for both ribbons from Michaels, and $4.00 for the Plant costing $7.00 in all. You couldn't buy a cheaper, nicer pot if you wanted.

Haunted House Kit

This was a Haunted House kit we purchased from Michaels. We got it after Halloween and it was 80% off! So instead of paying $24.99 for it, I only paid $5.00! We built it in less than 20 minutes and in the end it turned out great. You should always check the sales section of the Michaels store after a holiday, they have some great finds!

DIY Monster Storage Boxes

Monster Monster Monster! I created these monster boxes so easily and they replace the stupid, boring boxes my son had in his room. Here's how I did it:

1. The black canvas boxes were purchased from Dollarama for $2.00 each. But, I am sure you can probably get them at Walmart too, there's no difference really.
2. I then purchased felt sheets from Michaels for 33 cents each in various colors and cut out the monster shapes.
3. Using my hot glue gun, I glued the monsters together on the fabric boxes.

And that's it! So easy and it only cost me around $6.00 for the boxes and $3.00 for the felt! So $9.00 and you have custom DIY monster canvas storage boxes for your kids room!

DIY Yarn Letter & Crayon Pencil Holder

This yarn letter took a while but it was fun to do. Only because you literally have to wrap the yarn around the letter hundreds of times. I also created the crayon pencil holder too. Below are the tutorials for each.

Yarn letter Directions:

1. Purchase a wood letter from either Walmart or Michaels. I found they were cheaper at WalMart and better quality. You should also purchase a wood stand as well. I got this from Michaels for around $1.00-$2.00.
2. I then purchased some red yarn from Walmart and using my hot glue gun stuck the first strand in place. I then continued to weave the yarn around the letter until the entire "A" was completely covered.
3. I then painted the wood plaque black and used a thin layer of modge podge to seal it which is a clear glue seal you can get from Michaels for about $4.00-$6.00 depending on the size of the bottle. I purchase the biggest bottle and it lasts me months.
4. Once both pieces are finished, using a hot glue gun, glue the letter to the wood plaque.
And there you have, your very own letter plaque. My son's name is Alix so I thought this would be cute to put in his room. It looks so adorable sitting on his desk. He loves it!

Crayon Pencil Holder Directions:
  1. Purchase a box or two of crayons from a local Dollar store. I get mine for $1.25 each at the Dollarama.
  2. Get yourself an empty clean can or container. I used a frozen juice container. It's plastic so you don't have to worry about sharp edges, and I cut it to size.
  3. Using a hot glue gun, glue the crayons around the container and let dry. Make sure you press and hold each crayon for at least 10 seconds.
  4. Once finished, I used blue yard I got from WalMart and glued it around the holder to hide any white from the juice container. It added a nice accent.
And for about $3.00, you got yourself a custom-made crayon pencil holder. And you don't have to use rainbow colors like I did. You can use any colors you want in any pattern. Try it!!

DIY Melted Crayon Wall Art

Well, I finally did it, my first DIY Crayon art.
1. I purchased a black Bristol board instead of using a plain old white background. I picked it up from the Dollarama for $1.00.
2. Then I positioned the crayons on the board, I used about 3 boxes of 24 packs. They were $1.25 at the dollar store.
3. I then used my newly purchased hot glue gun from Michaels {$2.99} and glued the crayons in a zig-zag pattern on the Bristol board.
4. After they dried I got my hair dryer and held it over each section of crayons at a time, letting them slowly melt down the board.
5. Once I was done I doodled the word "imagine" in silver marker, from the Dollarama for  $2.00 and also drew some sketched clouds on the top of the crayons making it look like the dripping wax was rain.
6. I then framed it in a white frame from IKEA which cost me $6.00.

This project took me about 20-30 minutes to do and only cost $12.75 to make, excluding glue gun and glue costs of $7.98. Below is the finished product, hanging on Alix's wall.

You can literally make any pattern using the crayons and you don't have to use all the colors. You could do one in blue and green. Or maybe one for a girls room in pink, red and purple? The combinations and possibilities are endless. Get creative and have fun making your own melted crayon DIY Wall art!!!

DIY Skull Wall Art

This is a skull wall art piece I did for my older son's room. It was really easy to do but easier to get supplies for it around Halloween time.

Directions:
1. I used a large black felt skull from the Dollar Tree for $1.00 and hot-glue gunned it to a white Bristol paper.
2. I glued blue and white open card-stock paper from Michael's behind the Skull's eyes. They had a sale at Michael's and the paper was 25 cents each for 12x12 sheets.
3. Then I used silver thumb tacks or thumb nails and stuck em around the skull like a studded border. I got about 300 tacks from the Dollarama for $1.00.
4. For the finishing touches I added some silver around the skull and inside the nose, cracks and mouth using a silver marker that I purchased from the Dollar store for $2.00.
Purchased the large black frame from Ikea for $6.00.

All in all, I think I did a good job. Now where the hell am I going to put all this art? Thankfully Alix has a big room lol. This project cost me about $11.25, excluding the cost of the hot glue gun and glue which was $7.98.

To the left is the finished product.

Have fun creating.

DIY Name Wall Art

This is a frame I made for my eldest son Alix, which I have hung over his dresser. The frame was only $3 from Dollarama. I then used open card stock paper from Michaels, 2 sheets for 25 cents each. I glued them on the paper that came with the frame. Then, free-handed, I measured and cut out the letters using black open card stock from Michaels. Only took one sheet. I measured it into four equal squares. The sheets are 12x12 inches so each letter is about 3x3 inches. I then glued the letters onto the blue background and fastened it inside the frame. And there you go. Very easy DIY Framed Name Art. It only cost me $3.75 opposed to $20 and up for an already made name plaque!

Scrap paper Collage DIY

This is just a collage that I did for fun in about 10 minutes. I had some colorful scrapbook paper lying around. So I just cut out the pieces I liked, arranged them on the Bristol board and glued them on. So simple and cost less than $2.00. Now to frame it of course, you can buy a large frame from Ikea for about $6-10 depending on the size you need. Normally you would pay anywhere from $20 and up for a frame that will fit a Bristol board sheet. Not at Ikea though! They have tons of colors too! I think I might add more stuff to this. Going to put this piece in my art studio :).

DIY Name Wall Art "Draeden"

This is the name wall art I've done for my youngest son's room since he has more space on his walls. His name is Draeden, so I needed 7 frames for each letter. I found these wood frames at the Dollarama for $1.50 each. Got those, ripped the back support stand off them since they'll be hanging, not standing upright. I painted the frames all white. Then used open-card stock paper from Michaels for each frame. I chose to do blue and green various patterns and arrange it blue, green, blue, green, etc. I then traced out the black letters the same way I did for my other son's name. I used a 12x12 black sheet of open card stock paper, folded it in four, and used each 3x3 inch section for a letter. I traced the letters free-handed, then cut them out with scissors. I then glued them on the open card stock paper and inserted them. It would have been better to just get white frames but I couldn't find any cheap big ones in the size I wanted! In all it cost me $10.50 for the frames and $3.00 for the open card stock paper. You can do it too. All you need is frames, paint, paper, glue, scissors and some nails to hang them! Way cheaper than buying framed letters which can cost anywhere from $10-20 per letter!!

Have fun creating!

DIY Skeleton Figures - "Little Minions"

Almost every DIY project I make comes from the Dollarama, which is hilarious cause you'd never think you could get such awesome stuff from a dollar store!? I call these my "little minions". Hanging Skeleton Man

When I was at the Dollarama, I spotted this wood figure in the shape of a skeleton and thought, "hmm, that would be cool to paint". So I took it home and my son Alix, picked the colors for it. He also made me add a top hat and heart to his chest out of felt. Do you want to make your own?

Directions:
1. Purchase a wood skeleton from your local Dollar Store or Michaels. Mine cost $2.00.
2. Using acrylic paint, paint your desired look and colors onto the skeleton man. You could even make it a skeleton woman if you wanted to.
3. Once your done, used some modge podge and paint a thin layer of it all over the entire figure. This will help to ensure the paint stays in place, doesn't chip or fade.
4. Let dry for about 10-15 minutes then apply any other desired decorations such as fabric, 3D pieces, etc.
5. Hang wherever you'd like using drywall nails or screw. I hung mine in my son's room as it's skeleton/skull themed.

And there you have it. A DIY Hanging Skeleton Man!
Have fun creating your own!

DIY Sugar Skull Flower Pots

Since my son and I are obsessed with Skulls and Sugar Skulls, we have decided to do his room in a "skull theme". The walls are light sky blue with white trim and white and black furniture with black, green, blue and white accents/décor. One of the awesome DIY projects we came across on pinterest, was Sugar Skull Flower Pots. I thought this was a wicked thing to make for Alix's room. Here's what I needed and how I did it.

Items Needed:
  1. Clay Flower Pot - as many as you want to do - purchase from Dollarama or any Dollar Store for around $1-2 each or for packages of 2-3 pots.
  2. Clay Flower Pot Trays - if you want them, if you plan on putting real plants in them - purchase from Dollarama or any Dollar Store for $1 for a package of 3 pot trays
  3. Acryllic/Latex Paint Bottles/Tubes - Whatever colors you want from Michaels for $1-3 each or from the Dollarama/Dollar Store for $1-2 each for a larger tube.
  4. Modge Podge Clear Matte Glue Seal - Michaels for $4-6 depending on the size of the bottle
  5. Thin Paintbrushes - $1-6 a pack at Michaels, WalMart or Dollarama/Dollar Store
  6. Optional: Paint Pens - $6 for a 2 pack at Michaels
  7. Optional: Sponge Applicator for Glue - $0.25-$1.00 at Michaels
Total Cost: $5.00 and up depending on amount of pots and paint needed to purchase

Instructions:
  1. Begin by painting your clay pot and tray any color you wish. I painted three of mine white and painted one in black. Make sure you let dry for about 10-15 minutes in between coats. You`ll need at least 3-4 coats. However, acrylic on clay dries very fast.
  2. Using a paintbrush or sponge applicator, apply thin strokes of modge podge clear glue all over the entire pot and optional tray. Make sure it is completely dry before application.
  3. Let the Modge Podge dry for about 15 minutes to be safe.
  4. Next, using a thin paintbrush or paint pen and your choice of paint color, apply various sugar skull designs to the pot. You can use ideas from a Google Search simply by typing in ``sugar skull``.
  5. Let dry for about 15-20 minutes and then apply another thin layer of Modge Podge then let dry for another 15-20 minutes.
And there you have it. Sugar Skull custom flower pots. Once you`re finished designing them, you can put fake plants or a real plant inside. You can purchase fake plants from Dollarama or WalMart or real plants from just about any department store.

Have Fun and be Creative!
